Solution to Error: Blank screen coming out of hibernation

Blank screen coming out of hibernation

Have Windows 7 Home Premium on a Dell E1505 laptop.
When coming out of hibernation, the screen is a black screen with a blinking cursor at the upper left side of the screen.
Pressing the power button off then back on will start the laptop bios checks which
take a couple of minutes to complete (normally takes seconds) but will then come out of hibernation properly.
Have updated all drivers that were available.
There are no issues coming out of sleep mode just hibernation.

Thank you for this answer, Varun - following these steps definitely fixed the problem for my new Windows 7 laptop.

The victory seems to have been short-lived, however.
The first restore from hibernate went very fast, but since then it is back to it's long wait at the black screen, cursor blinking.

Performing the bcdedit steps every time I restart the computer is obviously not an option.

How do I prevent the computer from doing whatever it is that it's doing which necessitates these steps for normal operation?

Thank you!
you may want to try
1)opening a notepad document
2)type in what you would in the command shell ie:  C:\windows\system32> bcdedit /deletevalue 3d8d3081-33ac-11dc-9a41-806e6f6e6963 inherit
(of course you have to do the footwork of hunting down the of the identifier like in varun j's first postafter you do that its cut and paste replaceing the identifier you see here with the one specific to your computer)
3) save as
4) select all files
5) name file "hibernate_fix.bat" minus quotations of course
6) save to desktop
7) run everytime you may leave your computer for extended periods

what this does is create an executable command shell that u just have to double click and itll do it on its own just like a macro
great thing about this is you dont need administrator rights you can also pin it to the start menu

Boot in Safe Mode:

  • Open Run command as previously described
  • Type MSConfig
  • Click on Boot tab
  • Tick Safe boot in Boot option
  • Select Network
  • Click Apply and OK
  • Reboot your system

Your system will boot in Safe mode with Networking. You may now try and open Windows Store and should not see any errors.
